Accident

• On November 5, 2001, Frank Muller was in serious motorcycle accident
• Sustained multiple fractures, lacerations and abrasions
• Went into cardiac arrest three times
• Suffered traumatic brain injury, diagnosed as Diffuse Axonal Injury.

Status

• Has recovered from most of his other injuries
• Has made some neurological progress
• Prognosis for Diffuse Axonal Injury is uncertain
• Will need 24-hour assisted care on a long-term basis.
• Now is a resident of Learning Services Neurobehavioral Institute (LSNI) in Raleigh, NC

Urgent Need

• Have just learned that existing funds for Frank’s care will be insufficient for his ongoing needs as of April 30, 2006
• May result in sending him into long-term institutionalization.
• This would take Frank away from his wife and two young children (ages 6 and 3)
• Will also likely result in the use of heavy sedation (“snowing”)
• His quality of life will decrease dramatically.
